My site was HACKED! August 18, 2009
Posted by Major in : iPhone blogging , add a commentSomebody hacked into my web hosting account and hacked all of my websites using Iframes. Fortunately google detected this and put a warning on all of my pages so that nobody would get hurt. Well I have cleaned this site and am working on the rest of my webpages. I don’t know how long ago this was done. I just found out about it yesterday. I wish google had a way to let site owners know when sites are compromised.

A day in the woods. November 3, 2008
Posted by Major in : Deer Hunting, Kids , add a commentSaturday I spent the day in the woods with my two oldest sons, my brother and my dad. We were putting up some tree stands and moving some that were already up. The food plots that we planted a few weekends ago are growing well and show signs of deer. Last year we didn’t get to go deer hunting because I was working on “the house” in Vicksburg. I’m so glad that it sold quickly after we finished renovating it. The boys and I are really looking forward to getting into the woods this year.
One of the old tree stands that we took down was on a pine tree. I will never put another stand on a pine, it was covered with pine sap and was very sticky. Some of the other older tree stands need new seats put on them due to rot. The new ones we put up are made for two people to sit on and hunt. We now have 5 two man stands in the woods, the boys are not old enough to hunt alone. Even for just one person the two man stands are much more comfortable and easier to move around in. We will probably continue to buy the two man stands even when the boys are grown.
While we were working on the deer stands, the boys were exploring the woods around where we were working. They brought home the usual treasures that young boys find in the woods. They found many turkey feathers, a few mussel shells in the creek, and a baby bullfrog was brought home in a mini terrarium made from an empty water bottle, some dirt, moss, and twigs.
My oldest son proved once again that he is not old enough for a pocket knife. He could not keep it in his pocket and as a result he lost it in the creek. I can remember losing a few pocketknives myself when I was a young boy. I also remember breaking the tips off a few blades trying to use them as pry bars or screwdrivers. I guess I’ll be going back to Bass Pro Shop and getting him another cheap one. At least he is not taking it to school.
Sorry about the lack of pictures with this post. I forgot to take the digital camera with us.

Thank you Amazon.com for selling DRM-free mp3 Music Downloads! May 15, 2008
Posted by Major in : MP3 music downloads , add a commentIn the past I have bought songs from musicmatch jukebox, yahoo, walmart, and iTunes. All of these songs had restrictions on which computers I could play them on or what I could do with the music. This was because of the Digital Rights Management or “DRM” which is the software that is designed to control or limit how a file can be played, copied, downloaded, shared, or accessed.
Now AmazonMP3 is offering DRM-free music. DRM-free means that the MP3 files you purchase from Amazon.com do not contain any software that will restrict your use of the file. I love the fact that I can save a copy of my music to a backup cd or dvd and not worry about having to back up the license that gives me the right to listen to the songs. In a few years when I buy a new laptop, I can just copy the songs to the new computer and they will play without any problems. No worries about having to transfer the license. These amazon MP3 files can be played in iTunes or windows media player. They are also compatible with all the portable mp3 players on the market.
Bravo Amazon for making music user friendly again.
The above player will play a sample of some of the songs that I have downloaded from Amazon.com.
I was rearended today! May 10, 2008
Posted by Major in : Rearended , add a commentAs I was driving down cleary road today, I slowed to a stop behind the rural mail carrier as they were stopped putting mail into a box. I was stopped for about 15 seconds waiting for the oncoming traffic to clear so I could go on around the mail carrier, when I heard the sound of screeching tires and then felt a thud from behind. Everything that I had on my dashboard was all of a sudden on my floorboard. The damage to my truck was minimal, but the car that hit me received major damage. I’m sure it was totaled. She was quite shaken up but stated that she was alright. She refused transport to the hospital by ambulance. I hope her husband took her on to the ER though because her left arm was beginning to swell in a couple of places. She was in her vehicle alone as was I, but her husband showed up on the scene quickly. She told me that he was a member of the Richland police department.
I took the following pictures with my Iphone. They have been reduced in size by 50% for posting on the web.

UMC Candlelighters – Picnic at the zoo April 26, 2008
Posted by Major in : Childhood Cancer, Jackson Zoo, UMC Candlelighters, iPhone blogging , add a commentLots of fun was had by everyone attending the UMC Candlelighters 2008 Picnic at the Jackson Zoo today. The food was catered by Penn’s Fish House and they did a wonderful job feeding everybody. I attended the picnic with my wife and children and they got to meet some of the people that I work with at the Blair E. Batson Hospital for children. After the picnic we rode the train around Livingston Park and then we went into the zoo to see the animals and ride the carousel. It was a comfortable day and although it did rain some it was not enough to spoil our day. Many areas of the zoo was closed for renovations, but there was still plenty to see. I’m looking forward to next years picnic.
The UMC Candlelighters are a nonprofit organization of parents and friends of children with cancer that provides emotional, financial and educational support to families.

“Circus Clown” by Fred Hunt November 24, 2007
Posted by Major in : Art, Fred Hunt - Artist , add a commentThere is a print of a painting called Circus Clown next to the second floor nurses station at the Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital. When I first saw this print it kept me looking at it over and over again. Often during that shift I caught myself just sitting at the nurses station gazing at the print. When I got home from work I did a search on the net to try to order a copy. Sadly it seems to be out of print. If anybody that reads this knows where I can obtain a copy of this print please let me know.
I would put a picture of the print here, but I respect the artists copyright. But if you do a google search for “Circus Clown” and “Fred Hunt” then a few poster sites will have a picture of the print if you want to see it.
If you want to visit the artists website, just click on this link.
SurvivalBlog.com – family preparedness, survival, self-reliance, and self-sufficiency November 6, 2007
Posted by Major in : Uncategorized , add a commentToday I found a website that has a lot of useful information. I was looking for information on what kind of foods I need to buy that last a long time for emergency rations for my family. We lost electricity and water for several weeks following hurricane Katrina and I want to be more prepared if anything similar happens to us again. Anyway, I came across SurvivalBlog.com and have been reading articles on this site for hours today. I found this article on starting a food storage system on a budget at http://www.backwoodshome.com/
Remember the “Double Nickel” September 25, 2007
Posted by Major in : Driving, Gasoline , add a commentFrom 1974 to 1995 there was a national maximum speed limit of 55 miles per hour that all states had to abide by if they wanted to continue to get federal money. This law was passed to conserve gasoline during the oil crisis. Well a couple of weeks ago I decided to try it out again. Since I have to drive about 110 miles round trip to work every third day I put a lot of highway miles on my truck. I drive a 2005 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab 4×4 truck, and when I set my cruise control on 75 mph I get around 17.0 to 17.6 miles per gallon. When I set my cruise control on 55 mph and go over the same highway under the same conditions my truck gets 22 to 23 miles per gallon. That is a 5 miles per gallon increase. My tank hold 24 gallons, so on a tank of gas I can get about an extra hundred miles just by slowing down to 55 miles per hour. It lengthens my commute by about 15 minutes which is really nothing when your on the road for an hour, and it is more relaxing to drive at the slower pace. I never realized it but driving 75 miles per hour down the interstate for an hour causes a lot of tension and tightness in my shoulders and back. So with the price of gasoline as high as it is I believe I will be driving 55 from now on.
Microsoft is allowing OEMs to offer a “downgrade” option back to XP! September 22, 2007
Posted by Major in : Uncategorized , add a commentI bought 2 laptops at Bestbuy in December so I could get them with XP installed and get the free upgrade to Vista. When I finally got the two upgrade CDs in the mail 7 months later I chose not to do the upgrade. I like XP and don’t have any problems with it. I did get the Office 2007 suite that is supposed to be for Vista, but it works great on XP.
After seeing this news on YouTube I am glad I have not upgraded yet. After searching the web I see that a lot of people are having problems with Vista.
Another reason the OEMs need to continue offering XP is for customers like hospitals and such that have hundreds of computers in use will not have to support two different operating systems through their help desk or IT department.
Amazon Unbox Video vs iTunes September 7, 2007
Posted by Major in : Entertainment , add a commentThis post is a response to Nalts, of YouTube fame, at http://willvideoforfood.com/.
Although I have in the past downloaded wildfeed captures of my favorite TV shows from different IRC channels, (channel0) and for the past couple of years I have been using Tivo. Then Tivo and Amazon.com partnered to bring us Amazon Unbox Video, which can be downloaded directly to my networked Tivo boxes (I have two of them.) Amazon.com gave me a code for ten or fifteen dollars worth of free downloads. Which I have used to download some videos to both my Tivo boxes and to my laptop computer. The quality is excellent. I had never downloaded anything but music from iTunes at this point. Then I was looking for an episode of Navy NCIS and could not find it on Amazon.com and when doing a google search I found that videos could also be downloaded from iTunes and I promptly found the episode I wanted and downloaded it from them. The quality was also excellent from iTunes. I feel that $1.99 is a very fair price for a per episode sale of my favorite TV shows. (Bones, NCIS
, CSI
and others) Since I have moved my Tivo boxes are still stacked in a corner, I need to hook them up before the new season starts but I feel good knowing that I can get any episodes that I miss on TV by simply going to Amazon.com or iTunes and buying them. It really prefer the Amazon.com service because they allow me to download both to my Tivo boxes to view on my big screen and to my laptop, both for just $1.99, so I can take my shows with me.

Paying for my kids’ school lunches is so easy with MealpayPlus. September 2, 2007
Posted by Major in : Kids, School , add a commentI absolutely love being able to pay for my four children’s school meals online. They will even send me an email when their accounts drop below a set amount. MealpayPlus saves me from the hassle of writing four checks every week to send to the kids teachers for lunch money. You can check out the website to see if this service is available in your school district. They do charge a small amount, two dollars, for this service. Also, when I tried to pay for the whole month I got a message that the maximum amount I could pay in one transaction is $200.00.
I really like being able to log into my kids account and see what they have charged. I can tell who is eating breakfast at school and who is eating extra snacks at lunch time. For instance, Michael really likes to get some Grandma’s Cookies with his lunch and Garrett has gone for the cheese sticks.
